About the IMS


Established on 31 July 1998 by a Resolution of the UP Board of Regents, the Information Management Service (IMS) serves as the information technology support arm of the University. The IMS has five major functions, namely:

  1. Campus-wide network operations. Maintenance of the network backbone. Help desk re connectivity issues and concerns. Support for videoconferencing activities. Maintenance of servers (web, database, DNS, LDAP, etc.). Management of Internet access.

    2. Videoconferencing support
    3. Servers maintenance
    4. Help Desk re network issues and concerns
  2. Information systems design, development, maintenance, and technical support
    1. CPC-DATS (cpc-dats.upm.edu.ph)
    2. Digitization project
    3. SAIS and FMIS technical support
    4. Legacy systems support: Computerized Registration System (CRS) and Personnel Data Tracking System (PDTS)
    5. University and offices' web sites hosting and technical support
    6. Email accounts administration
    7. Maintenance of the payroll system
  3. IT equipment maintenance and support. Troubleshooting problems encountered by employees in using computers and other IT equipment.
  4. IT capability-building and human resource development support. IT training activities for UPM employees. Courses include: Google Apps, computing security, virtual learning environment, and web-based content management. Handling of computer exams for UPM job applicants.
  5. Technical assistance/advice in software acquisition and maintenance. Evaluation of requests for ICT equipment purchase. Inspection of quality of acquired ICT equipment and software.

Vision and Mission

Vision: The Information Management Service (IMS) envisions the University of the Philippines Manila as being able to optimize information and communications technology (ICT) in efficiently carrying out its mission towards attaining the vision of being an outstanding and relevant institution of higher learning .

Mission: The IMS serves as the information and communications technology (ICT) arm of the University. It helps the University keep pace with the digital age by innovating and making use of appropriate technology attuned to its funding capacity.

The IMS also serves as the link between the UP system's computerization initiatives, such as the eUP project, and the constituent unit's own endeavor.
