IPv6 is the future of Internet and UP Manila is ready for it
Communications done locally and globally through a network via computers require the usage of Internet Protocol (IP) Address. With the impending depletion of IP version 4 (IPv4) which only has about 4 billion plus addresses, IP version 6 (IPv6) is now the next big thing. Known big sites such as Yahoo and Google are now IPv6 capable and experts are expecting v6 traffic to exponentially grow in the coming years.
UP Manila is implementing IPv6 in dual stack for years now. Users might not notice this but once their units connect to UP Manila network, they automatically get v6 leases. In dual stack implementation, IPv6 works in parallel with IPv4, the connected device initially connects to sites using IPv6 and will only use IPv4 once v6 is not detected.
With this, we are proud to announce that UP Manila is the leading institution with the highest IPv6 capability in the Philippines. According to the article in http://blog.apnic.net/2016/08/26/unearthing-ipv6-benefits-moving-cloud/, UP Manila is the most IPv6-ready institution in the country.
